Should Your Website Design Feature a Blog?

There are many millions of blogs available for public consumption within the world of the web. It seems that everyone and their mothers have started to write about the world as they see it, covering everything from random thoughts and feelings to expert tips on a specialist subject. Would your company website design benefit from featuring its own blog? Or are people getting bored of this form of information being thrust upon them?

Let’s consider some advantages and disadvantages to including a blog on your company website design to help you to decide if it will be suitable.

The Advantages

-       If your blog is well written, informative and frequently updated you may find that customer loyalty is dramatically increased. A blog provides something that a visitor can well and truly sink their teeth into and follow on a regular basis.

-       Blogs are favoured by search engines due to the frequent updating of generally useful content. The more that you update your website, the more likely the search engine spiders are to return every day, allowing your website to become more and more popular when it comes to your place in the search engine results.

-       A blog can also provide any visitors with a great chance to provide you with feedback and information by leaving comments on any blog post that captivates their interest.

The Disadvantages

-       Do you have a writer on staff that can put information in an interesting way that your visitors would want to read? Do you actually have enough to say to update a blog once a week or month? Creating a blog that is of a high quality is not necessarily an easy process.

-       Placing a blog on your company website design and populating it with an exciting new post may not be too difficult, but what happens when work gets busy? Will updates still be placed upon your website? What would a visitor think if they are looking for the latest information only to find that the latest blog was uploaded a year ago?

-       You must always carefully consider what content is included within you blog, as it isn’t only potential customers that could see it, but also your competition. Any posts created by yourself or employees may need an additional level of moderation to ensure that all content is completely appropriate.

Should Your Website Design Feature a Blog?

Now that you have considered some of the advantages and disadvantages of blogging within your company website design it’s time to make a decision. Is the chance of increasing the loyalty of your web-based visitors worth having to keep things constantly updated?

As every business and organisation is unique there is no easy answer, as a blog may be more suited to some industries than others. However always remember that, should you or your team struggle to create content, you could always outsource the job regularly to a freelancer or writing team to ensure that your website remains constantly fresh and up to date.
